Let the numbers be x and y.

A number is 4 times another number,

x = 4y…Eq..1

if 21 is added to both the numbers then first number becomes 7/4 times the other number.

(x + 21)/(y + 21) = 7/4

Cross multiplication

4 (x + 21) = 7 (y + 21)

4x + 84 = 7y + 147

4x - 7y = 147 – 84

4x - 7y = 63…Eq..2

Now putting the value of x from Eq.1 to Eq..2

4 (4y) - 7y =63

let a no. be x another no. is 4times of x so 4x

now 21 is added to both ..

then x+21 and 4x+21

and given that when 21 is added the first no. become 7/4 the other ..so

7/4(4x+21)=x+21

28x+147/4=x+21

28x+147=(x+21)4

28x+147=4x+84

28x-4x=84-147

24x= -63

x= -63/24

now other no. is 4x=4(-63/24)= -63/6

hope it HELPS you
