Question :-

If 2 and 0 are the zeros of the polynomial

f(x) = 2x³ - 5x² + ax + b , then find the values of a and b

Answer :-

→ a = 2 , b = 0

To Find :-

→ a and b

Solution :-

Given that \:

→ f(x) = 2x³ - 5x² + ax + b

and f(2) = 0 , f(0) = 0

If 2 and 0 are the roots of this polynomial hence ,

these will satisfy to the given polynomial.

(1) when x = 2

→ f(2) = 0 = 2 (2)³ - 5 (2)² + 2a + b

→ 0 = 16 - 20 + 2a + b

→ 0 = -4 + 2a + b

→ 2a + b = 4 ......eq.(1)

(2) When x = 0

→ f(0) = 0 = 0 - 0 + 0 + b

→ b = 0 put in eq.(1)

so,eq.(1) will be

→ 2a + 0 = 4

→ a = 2 ,b = 0
