Answer:

a)

Speed = Distance / time

=> (120+60)/(10+6)

=> 180/16

=> 11.25 m/s

Velocity = Displacement / time

=> (144)/(10+6)

[144m here because displacement refers to the shortest distance between 2 points, which is independent of the path of the body, while distance is along the path travelled by the body]

=> 144/16

=> 9m/s

b)

Here, the shortest distance between A and C is through B, and it is a straight line.

So Speed = Velocity = 180/16

=> 11.25 m/s

I am assuming that the body travels from A to B and B to C in both cases, as you haven't mentioned it. If it is not the question, please let me know, and I'll change the solution
