Given that A and B can finish a work in 16 days and 12 days respectively.

Work-done by A in 1 - day = 1/16.

Work-done by B in 1 - day = 1/12.

A started the work and worked at it for 2 days.

Work done by A in 2 days = 1/16 * 2

                                            = 1/8.

Remaining work = 1 - 1/8

                            = 7/8.

(A + B)'s 1 - day work = (1/16 + 1/12)

                                   = 7/48.

Then A and B will do 7/8 th part of work = 48/7 * 7/8

                                                                    = 6 days.

Therefore the total time taken to complete the work = 2 + 6

                                                                                         = 8 days.

Hope this helps!
