Answer:

given total no. of students = 60

Let, no. of girls = x

then , logically no. of boys

=( 60 - x)

NOW, amount given by 1 boy = Rs. x

similarly, amount given by 1 girl = Rs. 60-x

total money from boys = (60-x) × x

= 60x - x2

total money from girls = no. of girls × amount given by 1 girl

= x × (60-x)

= 60x - x2

#total money = 60x-x2 + 60x-x2

=120x - 2 x2

but given total money = 1600

then 120x - 2 x2 = 1600

2 x2-120x+1600 = 0

x2- 60x + 800 = 0 ( dividing throughout by 2)

x2 - 20x -40x + 800 = 0

x( x- 20) -40 ( x- 20) = 0

(x-40) (x-20) = 0

so, x= either 40 or 20

if no. of girls (x) = 40 and no. of boys = 20

or if no. of girls = 20 then no. of girls = 40.
