1. James Mill thought that all Asian societies were at a lower level of civilisation than Europe. ... To him, only British rule could civilise Indians by ruling over them and by introducing Western education, laws and institutions in India.
2. Dates are important, as they note when certain events happened. This is very important because history is recorded chronologically. It helps to know that one event happened before another event so that one can examine the relationship between events. Dates also serve to mark periods in history.
3. We divide history into different periods in an attempt to capture the characteristics of a time , its central features as they appear to us , the terms through which we periodise , that is demarcate the difference between periods become important . they reflect our ideas about the past .
