He felt pity for them. So, he asked the swallow to pick out the ruby from the sword and give it to the seamstress

3) The prince sent the sapphires for the playwright so that he could finish a play for the director of the theatre in time. The princes sent his second sapphire to a poor match girl. Her matches had fallen into the gutter. She was afraid that her father would beat her for this loss.

4) When the swallow flew over the city it saw the stark contrast between plenty and poverty. It saw rich men making merry completely oblivious to the plight of the poor just down the lane. It saw the pathetic condition of the poor when they were denied even a sound sleep by police patrolling the street.
