Answer:

(a) The connections between the resistors in a meter bridge are made of thick copper strips because the resistivity of the copper wire is very low. As, the connections are thick, so the area become very large and the resistance of eh wires become almost negligible.

B) The balance point is obtained in the middle of the bridge wire for the following reasons: ➡When the balance point is in the middle of the bridge wire, the resistance in the four arms P, Q, R and X become of the same order and consequently the bridge becomes more sensitive

C) The material of wire used in meter bridge is made of manganin or eureka due to there high specific resistance or resistivity. Thick copper strips are used in meter bridge because copper is a good conductor of electricity...

The answer to the given questions is as follows:

(a) The connections between the resistors in a meter bridge made of thick copper strips because of the low resistivity of the copper wire.

  • The copper strips are thick so as to increase the rate of cross-section and thus the resistance of the wires becomes negligible.

(b) It is generally preferred to obtain the balance point in the middle of the meter bridge wire as the sensitivity of the meter bridge is improved.

(c) The material used for meter bridge wire is Constantan. It is a copper-nickel alloy.

  • It is used because the temperature coefficient of resistance of this wire is nearly negligible.
  • Due to this reason, the resistance of the wire is independent of the temperature.
