General Dyer was given charge when martial law was imposed in Punjab. People who weren't aware about this law held a public gathering at Jallianwala bagh on the eve of Baisakhi. Knowing this, Dyer marched to the garden and ordered open fire against the people. Thousands were killed in this firing.

Khilafat committee was formed to launch Khilafat movement. Khilafat movement was started by Indian muslims against the Britishers to restore the power of Caliph [ religious and political head of muslims ].
