Answer:

a) Dilute sulphuric acid reacts with zinc granules to produce zinc sulphate and hydrogen gas.

  H2SO4(aq)+Zn(s) -->ZnSO4(aq) + H2(g)

b) Dilute hydrochloric acid reacts with magnesium ribbon to produce magnesium chloride and hydrogen gas.

2HCl(aq)+Mg(s) → MgCl 2   (aq)+H 2   (g)

Baking Soda:

Sodium carbonate (washing soda) is used in glass, soap, and paper industries.

It is used in the manufacture of sodium compounds such as Borax.

Caustic Soda:

Sodium hydrogen carbonate is also ingredient in antacids.

It is also used in soda-acid fire extinguishers.

(ii) b) The strength of acid or base depends the amount of water in which it is mixed.

2.

(a) Carbon dioxide is given off during the reaction between copper(II) carbonate and hydrochloric acid. Metal oxides and metal hydroxides both react with acids to produce salts and water.

(b) Non-Metallic oxides react with bases to give salts and water. Here metal in base reacts with carbon dioxide to form a salt. Hydrogen adds with oxygen in non- metal oxide to form water. This is similar to neutralization reaction so non metallic oxides are acidic in nature.

3. (a) An aqueous solution of an acid conducts electricity because in water, an acid (HCl) dissociates to give ions. Since, the current is carried out by the movement of ions, an aqueous solution of acid conducts electricity. During dilution, more of acid dissociates into ions.

(b) Acidic solutions conduct electricity and basic solutions do not conduct. ... Both acidic and basic solutions in water conduct electricity. Acids, when dissolved in water release the H+ and bases when dissolved in water release the OH- ions. These ions are charged species and so act as charge carriers.

(c) No, the separation of H⁺ ions in acids can't take place when HCl added to a Non- aqueous solutions like as benzene, toluene. Because non aqueous solution do not have the capacity to separated acid into ions... Water has specific role to play in the separation of acids and base into its ions.
