the third war began as the British started invading maratha territories under governor-general Warren hastings. the Peshwa Baji Rao 2 joined forces with other maratha chiefs to fight British but the maratha power was finally crushed in this war
the Peshwa was removed and sent to bithur near Kanpur. he was given a pension for the remaining years of his life while the other chiefs were made to sign the subsidiary alliance.
