Baking soda is basic in nature. It is widely used in food products so that's why it cant have a acidic nature. Basically sodium bicarbonate comprise of which is chemical with high pH. Thus due to this high pH it can react with other foods. Moreover, this can be justified with several other indicators like it has a soapy texture, it is bitter to taste, it is when mixed with water and dipped in litmus paper the litmus paper turns blue.
