Our teeth is made up of a calcium Phosphate compound. We are well aware of the corrosive nature of acids, so if we take acidic food ( all sour food substances are acidic ) then these would damage our teeth and cause gradual decay of the tooth enamel leading to dental problems. The best way to prevent tooth decay caused by acidic food is by brushing regularly twice a day with toothpaste. This is because toothpaste is a base and it would neutralize the harmful effect of acid on teeth.
