Characteristics of Sound Wave ---
(1) Wavelength -- The minimum distance in which a sound wave repeats itself is called its wavelength .
(2) Amplitude --- The maximum displacement of the particles of the medium from their original undisturbed positions, when a wave passes through the medium is called amplitude .
(3) Time-Period -- The time required to produce one complete wave is called time-period .
(4) Frequency --- The number of complete waves or cycles produced in one second is called frequency .

Answer :
CHARACTERISTICS OF SOUND WAVE
When a sound wave is propagated through a medium, the density as well as the pressure of the medium at a given time vary with distance, both above and below the mean value of density and pressure.
Some Important characteristics of sound wave are given below -
1. AMPLITUDE - The magnitude of the maximum disturbance (pressure or density) in the medium on either side of the mean value is called the amplitude of sound wave. Amplitude is usually represented by the symbol A. For sound, unit of amplitude is same as the unit of density or pressure.
2. WAVELENGTH - The distance between two consecutive compressions or two consecutive rarefactions is called the wavelength. The SI unit of wavelength is metre (m).
3. FREQUENCY - When sound is propagated through a medium, the density or pressure of the medium oscillates between a maximum value and a medium value.
The change in density or pressure from the maximum value to the minimum value and again to the maximum value is called one complete oscillation.
Frequency of a sound wave is the number of oscillations completed per unit time by the sound. Alternately, Frequency of sound wave is the number of compressions or rarefactions crossing particular section per unit. SI unit of frequency is called 1 hertz (1 Hz). 1 Hz = oscillation per second.
4. TIME PERIOD - The time taken between two consecutive compressions or rarefactions crossing a point is called the time period of the wave. Alternately, the time taken for one complete oscillation in the density of the medium is called the time period of the wave. SI unit of time period is second (s).
5. WAVE SPEED - The wave speed (say of sound waves) is defined as the distance which a point on a wave, such as compression or a rarefaction, travels per unit. Alternately, speed of sound wave in a given medium is defined as the distance through which a sound wave travels in that medium in unit time. SI unit of wave speed is m/s.
