Answer:

                 Clean India Campaign

Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is a campaign against squalor, untidiness, garbage, launched by Indian Prime Minister Narender Modi on October 2, 2014. The campaign aims to make India neat, clean, and green by instilling in people a sense of responsibility towards personal and public cleanliness and hygiene.

‘Charity begins at home’, which means we should help and care for our own family first, before we start helping other people.

The entire nation is abuzz with the cleanliness drives and campaigns under the impetus of ‘Swachch Bharat Abhiyan’.  We must ensure we become the real participant in this crusade against the dirt and squalor in true spirit. We must start the cleanliness drive from our own home and surroundings.  Our zeal and enthusiasm for the cleanliness drive is useless, if our own home and surroundings are unclean, and we are spending hours cleaning the streets in other areas.

The best way to begin this cleanliness drive is your own room, your own cupboard, your own toilet, your own kitchen, your own garbage. Do you keep your own room and surroundings clean? Are you able to maintain the cleanliness around you? If you really do, you feel the satisfaction and contentment of being clean! Now you can lend a helping hand and your expertise in keeping the neighborhood clean! This is how we must go about this cleanliness drive. Remember, only a lit candle can light other unlit candles. Similarly, people who keep themselves clean and their surroundings clean, can help other people to achieve cleanliness objectives.

Besides, a man or woman who keeps himself/herself clean is an inspiration for many. By being perfect role-models we can do much more than by volunteering for cleanliness rallies, which are usually organized for hype in media!

So let the cleanliness begin at your own home! If each one starts maintaining cleanliness at his or her own home, the entire nation will automatically become clean.

Subject: Public Parks Converted into Parking Slots

Sir:

I am writing to your good self to express my deep concern and anguish over the problem of public parks getting converted into parking slots. Ever increasing urbanization and industrialization, increasing traffic on roads, etc. all have contributed to it. And absence of open spaces in the modern colonies, townships, and residential areas has further aggravated the problem.

The worst lots that have been affected are: the young children, and the old people, besides all age group people. How unfortunate are the growing children! They don’t have any space left to play and have fun. The few parks there are have been very badly maintained. They have either been encroached or in such a bad shape, that children fear going there.

The Government must look into it. I would also appeal to the people to not let the parks be converted into parking lots. These parks not only enhance the beauty of the surroundings, but also are attractive places to have fun and play. The Municipal Corporation should get parking slots built in colonies, but not at the cost of parks.  I appeal to the concerned authorities to look into the problem and do the needful. Kindly publish my letter in your esteemed daily.

Yours truly,

Preeti Gupta

How I had a  Narrow Escape from a Capsized  Boat...

Once upon a time, I decided to go for a long sailing trip in my personal boat. My father had gifted me this boat after ensuring I had become a perfect sailor. I myself had trained me for many years. I loved sea, especially the rough turbulent sea. After a long and passionate sailing through many a storm, I had become exceedingly confident of tackling any turbulent sea.

In vacation, I and my friend, Monty, set for a sail. We were to sail to the distant island, spend a night there and return the next day. The island was very far. Just a few miles before the island, the sea was formidably turbulent. Only the fearless and skilled sailors could steer their boats through this rough patch of the sea.

As soon as my boat entered the sea, huge waves began rising and buffeting the boat. Strong wind began howling, and the sky was overcast with dark clouds. Suddenly, a wave, 10 meters high, struck the boat and turned it upside down. Monty and I had already put on our life jackets. When I saw the boat sinking slowly below the raging waters, I jumped into the water; my friends also did the same. The boat sank; and I began swimming towards the island. After an hour’s swim, we managed to reach the island and took the native people’s help. I called home and narrated the entire episode to my parents.
