Answer the following questions related to Forest Resources: (1) Find the regions of alpine and coniferous forests in Europe. Account for their location. (2) Describe the sequence of forests from Barents Sea to Black Sea. Try to correlate this sequence with the distribution of rainfall. (3) Which forest area in the continent (you think) is suitable for animal husbandry?
Answers
(1) Find the regions of alpine and coniferous forests in Europe.
Account for their location.
The regions of Europe where the Alpine forest is present are Italy, Spain and France, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Slovakia, Romania. Alpine region contains the seven of the highest and longest range. It is rich with diverse biodiversity.
Coniferous forest is present mainly in areas which have long winters and short summers in the mid latitudes between 40° to 60° north and south. It is found mainly in northern hemisphere and may be some in southern hemisphere. Northern part of Europe has this type of forest.
(2) The forest sequence from the Barents Sea to Baltic Sea is Alpine and Tundra Forest covers the top with little area.
Coniferous Forest: It is followed by Alpine and widely covers the central part.
Then the Broad - leaved forest and meadow covers the little area near the Baltic sea.
Therefore, we can see more rainfall between 50 cm to 100 cm due to the presence of Coniferous forest, and between 25 cm to 50 cm of rainfall in the Alpine and Broad leaved forest.
(3) Animal husbandry is carried out for products like animal meat, milk, eggs and fibre from animals. It is also a branch of agriculture farming. Animals like cattle, sheep, pigs, cow, rabbit etc are grown in the fields and forest areas and were killed for animal products. Mostly Herbivorous animals were raised for the livestock. So, Evergreen forest is suitable for animal husbandry.
