Explanation:

first, answer - The desert locust is a species of locust, a periodically swarming, short-horned grasshopper in the family Acrididae. They are found mainly in Africa, through Arabia and West Asia, and extending into parts of South Asia. During population surge years, they may extend into parts of western Spain

Experts attribute the current deep invasion of locusts to the fact that while rabi crops have been harvested, Kharif sowing is yet to begin. The low availability of crops is leading the swarms to devour leaves on trees, and vegetable, fruit and cotton crops, and move deeper into India in search of fodder.

Mutual stimulation among swarm members was observed to reinforce flight activity, to make the locusts keep together and fly in parallel, thereby stabilizing the direction of the swarm as a whole (gregarious inertia), and to accelerate mass changes of direction initiated by external agencies such as wind.

Currently, there are three primary limitations that impact this system: the huge and remote desert areas that must be searched for locust infestations; increasing political insecurity, inaccessibility and dangers within these areas; and the safe use of pesticides during control operations.
