Answer:

a) (iii) molecule

b) (iii) Al2O3

c) (iv) 4

Explanation:

Q. (a). The formula of a compound represents a molecule. Yes the formula represents the different type of atoms present in a specific ratio in a molecule. For example H2O represents water molecule

Q. (b). The formula of aluminum oxide is Al2O3. The ox.no of aluminum is +3 and the ox.no of oxygen is -2, Crisscrossing these numbers, we get the formula Al2O3

Q. (c). The valency of nitrogen in NO2 is 4.

The oxidation state of oxygen in most of it's compounds is -2. Since the net charge is 0, the molecule is neutral. Let x be the ox.no of N

x + 2(-2) = 0

x = +4

Hence valency is 4.

Thank you.

Ps : Valency is different from oxidation state. sometimes valency called be equal to ox.no without any signs.
