This dilution problem uses the equation

M_aV_b=M_bV_b

M_a= 3.0M - the initial molarity (concentration)

V_a = 100 mL - the initial volume

M_b= 1.25 M - the desired molarity (concentration)

V_b = (100mL + x ) - the volume of thedesired solution

(3.0M)(100mL)=(1.25M)(100mL+x) \\ 300M \:mL=1.25M\left(100mL+x\right) \\ 300M \: mL=125M \: mL+1.25x  \\ 125M \: mL+1.25x=300M \: mL  \\ 1.25x\: mL=300M \: mL-125M \: mL  \\ 1.25x \: mL=175 M \: mL \\ x=\frac{175M \: mL}{1.25mL}  \\ \\x=\frac{17500M \: mL}{125mL}  \\  \\ x=140 mL

59.7 mL needs to be added to the original 15.00 mL solution in order to dilute it from 6.77 M to 1.50 M.
