Answer the question based on the given information Henry Walter Bates in 1852 found two different types of Brazilian forest butterflies. Type 1: these butterflies were poisonous to the birds Type 2: these butterflies ere edible ones that resembled the first type but were not poisonous. This resemblance of type 2 butterflies to type I butterflies confers an advantage to the type 2 butterflies and is known as mimicry. Which of these is MOST likely be true about the two types of butterflies?

Answer:

B is more likely to be true in my opinion.

Explanation:

This is because type 2 butterflies aren't actually poisonous but since they mimic type one, predators are more likely to steer away from them so that they aren't risking getting poisoned. Hope this helped.

These Type-I and Type-II Butterflies might have a common predator (option  -B)

  • This is a type of Batesian mimicry in which a particular patterned toxic or poisonous organism is mimicked by a  harmless organism mostly of similar sizes.
  • The harmless organism over an evolutionary time period develops a similar body pattern or body color as the poisonous one.
  • Over time the predator recognizes such a pattern is associated with distastefulness and avoids feeding on them
  • This gives an advantage to mimicking species as the predator does not feed on them also.
