  • Potential Energy: This is the energy possessed by an object by virtue due to some factors. These depend on the mass of the object, the acceleration acting on the object and the height at which the object is held. It is also known as stored energy and doesn't change as long as the above factors remain constant.

Formula for Potential Energy: Mass × Gravity × Height

According to the question, the object is held at rest. Due to this Kinetic energy is zero as we calculate Kinetic Energy only if there is some velocity experienced by the object.

Given Information:

  • Mass = 10 kg
  • Height above the ground = 6 m
  • Acceleration due to Gravity = 9.8 m/s²

Substituting the values in the formula of Potential energy we get,

⇒ Energy = 10 kg × 6m × 9.8 m/s²

Energy = 588 J

Therefore the amount of energy stored in the body is 588 J.
