Tricuspid valve - position?
Aortic valve - function?
Pulmonary valve - position?
- The valve allows blood to flow from the left ventricle (pumping chamber) to the aorta and prevents blood from flowing backward. Bicuspid aortic valve disease is an irregularity in the heart where there are only two leaflets on a valve, instead of the normal three.
- Tricuspid valve – located between the right atrium and the right ventricle (right atrioventricular orifice).
- Opens to allow blood to leave the heart from the left ventricle through the aorta and the body. Prevents the backflow of blood from the aorta to the left ventricle.
- There are two semilunar valves: Pulmonary valve – located between the right ventricle and the pulmonary trunk (pulmonary orifice). The valve consists of three cusps – left, right and anterior (named by their position in the foetus before the heart undergoes rotation).
