Hello Shruti,

Given -

Height of pole = 3 metres

First piece = 1/2 of second

Let the length of second piece be x.

∴ Length of first piece = 1/2 × x = 0.5x

If we add the length of two pieces, we will get the length of the pole.

∴ x + 0.5x = 3 m

⇒ 1.5 x = 3m

⇒ x = 3 m / 1.5 = 2 m

∴ The length of first piece = 0.5x = 0.5 × 2m = 1m.

The length of second piece = x = 2m.
