Let the age of son be a

Father's age = 45 - a

According to question

(a - 5)(45 - a - 5) = 4(45 - a - 5)

=> a - 5 = 4

=> a = 4 + 5

=> a = 9

Son's age = 9 years

Father's age = 36 years

Let father's age be x and son's be 45-x.
Five years ago,
(x-5)(45-x-5) = 4(x-5)
=>(x-5)(40-x)=4x-20
=>40x-x²-200+5x=4x-20
=>x²+4x-40x-5x-20+200=0
=>x²+(-41x)+180=0
=>x²-41x+180=0
180 can be splitted as -36 and -5.
=>x²-36x-5x+180=0
=>x(x-36)-5(x-36)=0
=>(x-5)(x-36)=0
Hence,x=5 and x=36.
But son cannot be elder than his father.
Thus,
Father's age=36 years.
Son's age=5 years.
Hope you understand this.
