because;

Magnification =  -v/u

where, v= image distance and u= object distance.

We then have:

-v = -3 x -x

v= -3x

−v  2 =2(x+5)⇒v2 =−2x−10.

By the mirror formula, we have:

1/u1 + 1/vi = i/f - 1/u2 + 1/v2

1/x + 1/3x = 1/x+5 + 1/2x+10

4/3x = 3/2x+10|

8x+ 40 = 9x

x= 40

1/f = 1/u1 +1/v1 = 1/x + 1/3x = 4/3x = 1/30

i.e. f= 30cm
