Given : r = 5cm

To find : area of shaded region

Construction :

join center of outer 8 circles to form a square {as shown in attachment }

Solution : refer to attachment

Instructions:

  • area of 1 = area of 3 = area of 7 = area of 9 =  \frac{1}{4}   \times \pi {r}^{2}

  • area of 2 = area of 4 = area of 6 = area of 8 =  \frac{1}{2}  \times \pi {r}^{2}

  • area of 5 = πr²

this is because ,

  • part of 1 , 3, 7 , 9 in square is (1/4) of a circle
  • part of 2 , 4 , 6 , 8 in square is semicircle
  • and 5th is whole circle

Answer :

option A) (400 - 100π ) cm²
