1) atoms.
2) electron microscope
3)2.75 angstroms
4) Interparticle force of attraction
Answer the following question
- - 1) The particles of matter are very small. The particles of matter have space between them. The particles of matter attract each other.
- - 2) (1)Matter is everything around you, and is anything formed with atoms and molecules or that possess mass.
(2) Mass can be defined as how much there is of an object and is related to how much something weighs.
(3)Objects that take up space and have mass are called matter.
- - 3) We can easily prove that matter occupies space by a simple experiment.
(1) Take a glass full of water approximately 100ml.
(2) Add sugar or salt in it and make it dissolve by stirring.
(3) Due to presence of some space inside the particles of water, particles of sugar dissolved.
(4) But after adding more sugar that space will be filled up and no more sugar can dissolve in it.
From this experiment we conclude that matter occupies space that's why sugar has some space which occupied the space inside water particles.
- 4) It is not possible to see am atom with naked eyes because the size of an atom is very very small. We can see the atom only under the microscope. It's atomic radius is 10-- 10m. The atom of an element does not exist independently.
- The dimension of atoms is very small of the order of 1mm.
5) following are the characteristics of matter :-
- Particles of matter are very thin in size.
- They have spaces between them.
- Particles if matter move constantly.
- They are attracted towards each other.
6) 1. Intermolecular forces are forces of attraction or repulsion which act between neighboring particles( atoms, molecles, ions).
2. Intermolecular space is the space between two molecule or atom. In solids it is very little. in liquids is more the solids but less than liquids and in gass it's the maximum.
