❇ On the basis of origin, there are two types of fibres:
- Natural fibres
- Synthetic fibres
Natural fibres are those fibres that is obtained from nature or from our biosphere. Like fibres that we get from plants are Plant fibres and fibres that we get from animals are Animal fibres. Plant fibres like jute, cotton, hemp, etc. And Animal fibres like wool, silk etc.
- Cotton - Usually worn in Summer for its water absorbing capacity.
- Wool - In winters, for keeping us warm.
- Silk - It is obtained from cocoons of silk worm
Synthetic fibres are those fibres that is made in factories or made synthetically by using chemicals. They are man-made fibres. They include fibres like Nylon, Polyester, Acrylic, Rayon.
- Nylon - First fully synthetic fibre obtained from coal, water and air.
- Polyester - Also known as Terylene and made up of repeating units known as ester.
- Acrylic - Resembles wool but is more durable and cheap
⚠️ Rayon is a regenerative fibre which is made from soluble cellulose compounds. It comes from plant product, wood pulp but is considered to be a synthetic fibre. Also known as Synthetic silk or Artificial silk.
