ice which is a solid has vacaned spaces between the molecules which makes ice lighter than WATER. thus ice floats on WATER.

Ihis is because ice is a rigid form of water, which is frozen. When water is freezing there are air molecules present in water which also get freezed, thus ice contains air molecules which ultimately lower its density than water. That's why ice floats on water.
