Answer:

Distance covered with 1 step = 1 m

Time taken = 1 s

Time taken to move first 5 m forward = 5 s

Time taken to move 3 m backward = 3 s

Net distance covered = 5 – 3 = 2 m

Net time taken to cover 2 m = 8 s

Drunkard covers 2 m in 8 s.

Drunkard covered 4 m in 16 s.

Drunkard covered 6 m in 24 s.

Drunkard covered 8 m in 32 s.

In the next 5 s, the drunkard will cover a distance of 5 m and a total distance of 13 m and falls into the pit.

Net time taken by the drunkard to cover 13 m = 32 + 5 = 37 s

I hope, this will help you

i am not gonna solve this in the true method...

This is how i Found it easy to solve...

In Simple sense...

The drunkard Take 5 step forward and 3 step backward

-> overall He takes 2 steps..

i.e., net distance travelled each turn is 2 meters.

Now Each step takes 1 second.

Since he takes 5 step forward->5 sec.

and 3 step backward->3sec

So net time taken each turn=5+3=8sec.

Simplied-> 2meter takes 8 seconds.

-> 1meter takes 4seconds.

Given: The pit is at a distance 11 meter

before we conclude we must know that the drunkard takes 5 step forward and then. 3 step backward.

and since 6+5=11

[ taken because after he travel 6m. he then travles 5m.(5 step) =11m and falls to pit]

Now; the time for 6m is taken from(2m->8sec)

i.e net time to travel 6m is (6×4)=24seconds.

And then for 5m(i.e 5step -5 second) is 5seconds.

So total time taken is 24+5=29 seconds...

WARNING: We must not take 8m as After the 6m. The drunkard falls into the pit.

Hope it helps...
