Two oxidising agents used for conversion of alcohol into carboxylic acid are acidified postassium di chromate and alkaline potassium permaganent.

(i). Ethanol will show no change in litmus test as ethanol is chemically neutral while carboxylic acid will turn blue litmus into red.

(ii). Ethanol do not react with sodium hydrogencarbonate while Ethanoic acid reacts with sodium hydrogencarbonate to give brisk effervesense and also carbon dioxide gas is evolved

ETHANOL

it has no reaction with sodiumbicarbonate

It has no action with litmus paper

ETHANOIC ACID

it gives brisk effervescence with sodium bicarbonate

It turns blue litmus paper to red
