(1) Let the number to be added be x.

x + 5/16 = 11/8

x = 11/8 - 5/16

$x = \frac{11 * 2 - 5}{16}$

$x = \frac{22 - 5}{16}$

$x = \frac{17}{16}$



(2) Let the number to be subtracted be x.

4 - x = 2 5/13

4 - x = 31/13

-x = 31/13 - 4

-x = -21/13

x = 21/13.


(3) 

Let the number be x.

x - 43/12 = 5/6

x = 5/6 + 43/12

$x = \frac{2 * 5 + 43}{12}$

$x = \frac{53}{12}$
