Answer :

Express x = - y/2 - 5 in the form ax + by + c = 0 and write the values of a , b and c

Sol : x = - y/2 - 5

= x + y/2 + 5 = 0

= 1(x) + (1/2)(y) + 5 = 0

So , ax + by + c = 0

Wherein a = 1 , b = 1/2 , c = 5.

A driver hires an auto rickshaw the fair is rupees 20 for the first kilometre and rupees 9 for the subsequent distance taking total distance covered as X kilometre and the total fare as rupees y form a linear equation .

Sol : Fair for first kilometre = rupees 20

Fair for subsequent distance = rupees 9

Total distance given = x km

Total fair = rupees y

Rupees y = 1 × 20 + (x - 1) 9

So the required equation is y = 9 (x - 1) + 20

Let x be 1 , Then

y = 9 × 0 + 20

y = 20
