Question :
There are 60 pebbles and 2 persons A and B. A takes 1 pebble, b takes 2 pebbles and again a takes 3 pebbles and b takes 4 pebbles and this goes on alternatively. who takes the maximum number of pebbles?
Answer :
Both A and B have 30 pebbles each at the end.
Given :
Total no.of pebbles = 60
A takes pebbles of odd numbers .
B takes pebbles of even numbers.
To find :
Who takes the maximum number of pebbles at the end
Solution :
Total pebbles available = 60
Since A takes the first turn, the no.of pebbles he will have after 5 turns = 1+3+5+7+9 = 25
Since B takes the second turn, the no.of pebbles he will have after 5 turns = 2+4+6+8+10 = 30
As the next turn is A's , he would have to take 11 pebbles, but the no.of pebbles available is 5
Hence, the total no.of pebbles A has at the end = 25 + 5
= 30
Hence, both A and B will have 30 pebbles each at the end.
