age of the father = x

age of son = y

five years ago so

(x-5) = 2( y-5)

x+ y = 70     eq 1

x-5 = 2y -10

x-2y = -5         eq2

subtracting one and two

-3y = -75

y = 25

putting value of y in eq 2

x - 2 * 25 = -5

x - 50 = -5

x = 45

therefore the age of the father is 45 and age of his son is 25
