Answer: Let John's present age be x years.

So Anthony's present age will be 2x years.

In 12 years time,

John's age= x+12 years.

Anthony's age= 2x+12 years.

x+12+2x+12=6x.

=>3x+24=6x.

=>6x-3x=24.

=>3x=24.

x= 24/3=8 years.

So John's present age is x= 8 years.

And Anthony's present age is 2x= 2*8=16 years.

> Let " x " be the age of John,

> Let " 2x " be the age of Anthony.

After 12 years,

• The age of John will be x + 12

• The age of Anthony will be 2x + 12

According to the given data,

\rightarrow \mathrm{x + 12 + 2x + 12 = 6x } \:

 \implies\large\mathrm{ 3x + 24 = 6x } \\\\ \implies \large\mathrm{  24 = 6x - 3x } \\ \\ \implies \large\mathrm{ 24 = 3x } \\ \\ \implies \large \mathrm{ \frac{24}{3} = x } \\\\ \implies \large\fbox{\mathrm{x= 8}} \:

Hence,

> The age of John is x = 8

> The age of Anthony is 2x = 16
