There are many schemes introduced by the gov. to alliviate poverty-

i) NREGA
a) National rural employment guarantee act was launched in 2005.
b) This program assured 100 days employment to every rural household every year.
c) One third of proposed jobs are reserved for women.

ii) NFWP
a) National food for work program was launched in 2004 in 150 most backward districts of f the country.
b) The program is open to all rural poor who are in need of wage employment and desire to do manual unskilled work.
c) It is implemented as 100 percent centrally sponsored scheme and foodgrains are provided free if cost to the states.
