The title and the subtitle compliment each other, they both go with the mood of the tale. In this story, the main character is an old man who is suffering and is going through a pain of his dead son.
The life is a misery for Iona, the character in the tale because his son passed away and if we look at the subtitle 'to whom shall I tell my grief?' the main character is feeling helpless and doesn't know with whom he should share his grief with because he thinks no one can understand him.
