Anu and Rahul were very happy. Their mother had taken them to the fair which was held in their grandparents’ village. The fair was full of hustle and bustle. Children were enjoying various rides; the food stalls were crowded with the customers waiting for their turn. The echoes of the children’s laughter and excited shouts could be heard from distance.

Anu and Rahul were enjoying their dosas at the food stall when they suddenly felt the tremors. The tents, poles, and the rides began to shake and sway to and fro. Some tall poles fell causing explosions and injuries to people. The panic spread like wildfire. People began to run for safety. The same fair which was full of fun and frolic, had turned into a bedlam of screams, shrieks, and cries for help. This transformation had been caused by an earthquake.

Anu and Rahul ran out of the fair. The jolts had lasted only for a few seconds. It had left destruction in its wake. Soon, the rescue teams arrived. The injured were taken to the hospitals. Fortunately, no life had been lost that day. Anu and Rahul also lent a helping hand in the rescue operations.

The fair was full of interesting shops, games and interesting food stalls. The kids left their mother’s hands and ran towards the game rides and shops. Suddenly, there was a loud clap of thunder followed by heavy rain. Both of them got scared. It was then they realized that their mother was not with them.

Suddenly, they heard an announcement from the entrance asking them to come there immediately. When they rushed there, they found their mother looking quite worried. They ran towards her and hugged her. She hugged her children and gave them a kiss each. As they walked back home silently, the kids decided that they would not let go of their mother’s hand in public.
