If sunil's age = x
anu's age = x+4

⇒ x - 4 = 3x - 24
⇒ x - 3x = -24 + 4

⇒ x = -20/-2 = 10

Sunil's age = 10years
Anu's age = 10+4 = 14years

Then Anu`s age = x+4 years
eight years ago sunil`s age = (x-8) years
eight years ago anu`s age = (x-8) + 4 years
it is also given that the age of Anu WAS 3 times sunil`s age

∴x-8 +4 = 3(x - 8)
⇒x-4 = 3x -24
⇒x -3x = -24 + 4
⇒-2x = -20
⇒x = -20/-2
∴x = 10
