Anu starts from point O and travels 5Km towards east.

Assume that from point O, 5km is at point A towards the east.

(OC = 5 km)

Also, 5 km towards the north (CB = 5 km) and 10 km west (BD = 10 km)

OA = AB = BC = OC = 5 km

We have to find the distance and displacement travelled by Anu.

Now,

Distance = Path travelled by body or an object from initial to the final position.

Distance travelled by her = OC + CB + BD = (5 + 5 + 10) km = 20 km

Displacement = Shortest distance between the initial and final position of the body.

In ∆OAD

(OD)² = (OA)² + (AD)²

BD = AD + AB

10 = 5 + AD

AD = 5

(OD)² = (5)² + (5)²

(OD)² = 25 + 25 = 50

OD = √50 = √(5 × 2 × 5)

OD = 5√2 km
