The Indian constitution lays down certain ideals and values that form the basis of the kind of country that we as citizens aspire to live in.

Values

1. Socialism→ an effort to reduce the socio-economic inequalities and to prevent concentration of power and wealth in the

hands of few.

2. Secularism→ unlike the western concept of secularism, it emphasises on the positive concept of secularism

i.e., all religions have the same status and support from the state.

3. Democracy→ based on the 'popular sovereignty', i.e., the government derives its authority from the will of the people.
