a + \frac{1}{3} = 3

Squaring both side, we get,

 {a}^{2} + \frac{1}{ {a}^{2} } + 2 = 9

  \implies {a}^{2} + \frac{1}{ {a}^{2} } = 7

Hence, the value is 7.
