note actually I am unable to see in the figure whether 9cm is BE or BC or AD or AF,if you want to ask please upload the picture again

ABCD is a rectangle so it's opposite sides are equal

Where

BA=CD

BC=AD

in figure we see that AB is also base of parallelogram

and BC is its hight (because it is also part of rectangle and we know that angles of rectangle=90⁰ so BC is height)

and area of parallelogram=Base×height

12×9

108cm²
