Lord Dalhousie was the youngest viceroy of India. He was smart, he was witty and a lot of annexation took place under his rule. Be it Oudh or due to to the introduction of the Doctrine of Lapse. A very notorious and unjustified manner in which the British expanded their control over various Indian territories. But all these were positives for the English which undoubtedly meant that they had a negative impact on our country.

If at all I am told to recall one good thing he did for India that too looking into motives and interests which served the British Empire as a priority would be the introduction of railways. I do not say that they did an exceptional job by building a modern form of communication for a lot of counties in this world established this network without having to be colonized but it is perhaps the only good thing that had happened to the country in a long time. It is a sin to even except something, when you are colonized under such a regime.

Without going into a lot of details and technicalities because they can be easily found on Wikipedia for the purpose of gaining knowledge, the first train in India had become operational on 22 December 1851 for localised hauling of canal construction material in Roorkee. A year and a half later, on 16 April 1853, the first passenger train service was inaugurated between Bori Bunder in Mumbai and Thane.
