Hey.

Given : A ball is dropped from a tower under the influence of the gravity. It reaches the ground after 4 seconds. Find the height of the tower from where it was dropped .

Solution :

As the ball is dropped freely under gravity

so, initial velocity, u = 0 m/s, a= g = 10 m/s^2

time , t = 4 s

For calculating height of tower :

As,
s \: = ut \: + \frac{1}{2} a {t}^{2} \\ \\ so \: \: s \: = 0 + \frac{1}{2} \times 10 \times {4}^{2} \\ \\ so \: \: s \: = 5 \times 16 = 80 \: m

Hence, height of the tower will be 80 m.

Thanks.

khushikatyal: without writing under gravity part in ques
DSamrat: yes. if the object is under gravity we always take a = g = 9.8 or say ~ 10 m/s^2
DSamrat: no. we should always metion that. steps are required to show why u used that value
DSamrat: mention**
DSamrat: always make a habbit of mentioning the reason behind every step. it gives u full marks as well as the solution will be error free and it will help u make your basics strong
khushikatyal: no if i will change ques and directly write in ques
DSamrat: so...in future you will be able to solve questions and steps in your mind only. u won't need a pen or paper.
khushikatyal: ok
DSamrat: yeah. if it is given in the question to use a= g. then u don't need to write
DSamrat: good luck
