Let the number of children be ‘a’
Number of adults be ‘b’
Total cost of ‘a’ children = 10a
Total cost of ‘b’ adults = 26b
Now as per first condition:
Total cost is 720
Therfore first equation will be:
10a + 26b = 740
Now per second condition:
Total number of persons is 50
Therefore second equation will be:
a + b = 50
Which can be transformed into :
a = 50 - b
Now lets put the value of ‘a’ into first equation:
10(50-b) + 26b = 740
500 - 10b + 26b = 740
500 + 16b = 740
16b = 740 - 500
16b = 240
Now dividing whole equation by 16:
b = 15
Now putting value of b in second equation:
a + 15 = 50
a = 50–15
a = 35
Thus, there are 35 children and 15 adults
