The three people are Paul, Colin and Brian.

The tip= £ 77.40

The ratio of the tips= 1:3:5

=> 1x + 3x + 5x = 77.40

=> 9x = 77.40

=> x= 77.40/ 9

x= £8.6

Therefore the amount each waiter gets =

Paul = 1 x 8.6 = £8.6

Colin = 3 x 8.6 = £25.8

Brian = 5 x 8.6 = £43

The amount Brian got over Paul=

43-8.6= £34.4

Hope it helps,
