A mechanical wave is a wave that is an oscillation of matter, and therefore transfers energy through a medium.
There are two basic types of wave motion for mechanical waves: longitudinal waves and transverse waves.
examples of mechanical waves are sound waves, slinky waves and water waves.

A mechanical wave is the wave which requires a medium to travel. (Unlike Non-mechanical which do not require any medium) For. eg. Sound waves.

Mechanical waves are of two types-
1.Transverse waves- Wherein the wave particle move perpendicular to the wave. A transverse wave has two parts- crest and troughs.

2.Longitudinal waves- Wherein the wave particle move horizontally in the direction of the wave. A longitudinal wave creates compressions and rarefactions.

Hope this concept is clear to you now. If you have any further query regarding this, Please feel free to ask. I'll help :))
