Answer:

a+b=5

so a=5-b

now substitute

(5-b)b=6

5b-b²=6

you have a quadratic equation now solve it

b= 2,3

now 2 case will form

case 1

b=2

so a=3

so a²+b²=9+4=13

case 2

b=3

so a= 2

so a²+b²=4+9=13

hence both values of a and b gives same answer so both the cases are satisfying so your final answer will be 13

Step-by-step explanation:

a + b = 5 \\ ab = 6

squaring on both sides we get

(a + b)^{2}  = 25 \\  {a}^{2}  + {b}^{2}  + 2ab = 25 \\

 {a}^{2}  +  {b}^{2}  + 2 \times 6 = 25 \\  {a}^{2}  +  {b}^{2}  + 12 = 25

p

 {a}^{2}  +  {b}^{2}  = 25 - 12 = 13

 {a}^{2}  +  {b}^{2}  = 13
